Data Humanism workshop for AIM-Dado Banatao Incubator x Tarlac EDGE 2025

With the rise of data-driven decision-making and independent business ownership in modern times, Local Government Units like Tarlac took the initiative to collaborate with AIM-Dado Banatao Incubator on an event such as Tarlac EDGE: Everyday Great Entrepreneurship. This event aimed to inspire, impart knowledge, and encourage confidence in the new generation of leaders and entrepreneurs.

More than 100 participants from various institutions attended, including Tarlac Agricultural University, Tarlac State University, local SMEs, PCCI Tarlac Chamber, DOST, and DTI. The talks focused on technology and innovation, exploring how they can be implemented to improve businesses and communities.

Among the speakers was Francine Tan, Director of Operations at Eskwelabs, who facilitated a workshop designed around the concept of emotional runway, promoting the philosophy of data humanism. This people-focused approach to data analysis and visualization was pioneered by information designer Giorgia Lupi, emphasizing that data is more than just numbers—it tells the stories of human experiences, from what people like and where they spend their time to where they are headed.

The workshop took participants on a journey through the data analytics pipeline of (1) asking questions, (2) analyzing data, and (3) communicating insights. From an energetic activity that had them moving around the auditorium to a quiet moment of reflection, they saw how data could be made personal and meaningful to their lives.

Francine expressed her gratitude for being surrounded by the next generation of entrepreneurs, describing the experience as both energizing and humbling. Seeing the enthusiasm and critical thinking of students, MSME owners, and government officials reinforced the importance of fostering a data-driven and innovative mindset. The event highlighted the power of a data-driven, innovative mindset and how LGUs can empower their communities to embrace technology for sustainable growth. As for our entrepreneurs, may they embody the principles of data humanism—not just to drive profit, but to build businesses that uplift and connect communities.
