Basty's Holiday Gift Guide

Basty’s Notebook

Hi, everyone! My name is Basty, and I’m a data scientist and educator from Metro Manila. If there’s something I value so much, that is education. Education has allowed me to not only dive into the amazing world of code and data but also to encourage and inspire others to do the same. Read more about me here.

Outside of work and school, I love playing video games like Valorant and League of Legends. I also love listening to Broadway musicals (HAMILTON, DEH, TICK TICK BOOM ALL THE WAY!). Lastly, I LOVE watching Friends, New Girl, HIMYM, and The Big Bang Theory.

Now, let’s take a look at my notebook!

December 2023 Notebook Entry

It’s the holiday season, fellow data enthusiasts! This means it’s time to elevate your favorite data scientist’s festivities with gifts that bring joy, humor, and a dash of knowledge to their data-driven world. In this blog post, I’ve curated a list of gifts that celebrate a world of quirky, useful, and downright nerdy items that will make their data-driven hearts skip a beat. Let the holiday cheer commence, and let’s get started!

The "No Missing Values" Coffee Mug

Raise your cups for freedom—the freedom to work on anything else because, my data friends, today we toast to the dataset that has no missing values! Behold, the "No Missing Values" coffee mug, a vessel of triumph for those rare moments when you conquer the elusive NaN and restore order to chaos. Because who needs missing values when you can have a caffeine-infused victory lap that will fuel us for the whole night?

A Clean Dataset

Just imagine receiving a clean dataset with no outliers, no missing values, and no wrong data types—an absolute dream! Most of our workload revolves around cleaning data, but wouldn’t it be nice, even just during the holidays, to receive a dataset that requires no cleaning? There is no better way of saying “I care for my data scientists/analysts” than giving them a clean dataset.

Logitech MX3 Mouse

Hands-down one of the best things you can give a data scientist/analyst is the MX3 Logitech mouse. It’s probably one of the best mice you can get for someone who works long hours in a day due to its ergonomic design, programmable buttons, multiple Bluetooth connections, and of course, its thumb-scroll wheel. https://www.logitech.com/en-ph/products/mice/mx-master-3s.910-006561.html

Keychron keyboard

There are definitely a lot of great keyboard brands out there, but a personal favorite of mine is the Keychron. There’s no need to specify which model in particular, but this keyboard is definitely a statement piece. This keyboard brand will elevate your data scientist friends’ typing experience and add sophistication to their workspaces. https://gameone.ph/media/catalog/product/cache/7a2235b416a1900151232a782f707140/k/e/keychron-k8-hot-swappable-red-1.jpg

Course Subscription

Believe it or not, data scientists/analysts are always on the lookout for online courses, and what better way to empower your data friends than by expanding their skillset with a subscription to Udemy or Coursera? From machine learning to advanced statistical analysis, these platforms offer a treasure trove of courses taught by industry experts. Give the gift of knowledge, allowing them to stay ahead in the ever-evolving landscape of data.

As we embark on this festive season, let's embrace the spirit of giving and bring joy to our data-loving friends. This holiday season, let's celebrate the magic of data and show appreciation for the dedicated individuals shaping the future of analytics. Happy holidays, and may your data always be clean, your code bug-free, and your insights ever illuminating. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 🎁📊💻
