The Hackathon

The Hackathon is the bulk of this three-month long journey. It comprises of the Release of Challenge statements the teams will be working on, Workshops with upskilling school Eskwelabs, Mentoring from Industry Professionals, and synchronous Hack Hours where you can meet fellow teams.

The Summit

The Summit is the culmination of this three-month long journey. It is a time to celebrate the creation solutions and projects proposed by finalists and award the winning teams. These are all set against the stage where BPI hosts a whole day event dedicated to digital transformation via workshops, key messages, a science fair-style showcase of data projects, and more.

What is the BPI DATA Wave Hackathon and Summit?

University students, partner organizations, and young professionals are welcome to join.

Is there a registration fee?

No, registration is free for all participants.

What are the key dates I should be aware of?

The hackathon is on October 30, and the summit is on December 9, 2024; other important dates include workshops and milestone deadlines.

Where will the hackathon and summit be held?

The hackathon will be at the AIM Conference Center in Makati, and the summit will be at SPACE One Ayala.

What are the prizes for the competition?

Prizes range from Php 30,000 to Php 100,000 for each track in the competition.

Can I participate if I’m not based in Metro Manila?

Yes! For Workshops 1 and 2, the Hackathon day, there are online ways to join for all three. For the top 3 in each of the 3 tracks (aka 9 teams), they will be presenting face-to-face at the Summit.
For those who are not based in Metro Manila, travel and accommodations will be arranged for the 9 teams presenting at the Summit.

What tracks are available in the competition?

The competition tracks are Generative AI, Classical Machine Learning, and Data Visualization.

How many people can be on a team?

Teams can consist of 2 to 4 members.

Can I enter as an individual and then get matched to a team?

Yes, Eskwelabs will assist you in getting grouped into a pair, trio, or group of 4.

Will there be workshops?

Yes, there will be several workshops, including Design Thinking and Data Storytelling, to help you prepare. These are all for free and conducted and delivered by Eskwelabs.

Hackathon Success FAQs

What is the deadline for submitting the hackathon milestones?

The first milestone is due on October 16, and the final milestone is due on November 15, 2024.

What should I do if I have technical issues during the hackathon?

We’ll provide technical support throughout the event, so you can focus on your project.

Will there be mentors to guide us during the hackathon?

Yes, mentors from BPI, Eskwelabs, and partner organizations will be available to provide guidance and support.

How will the winners be selected?

The top 9 will be chosen from the pool of final video submissions. Then, at the Summit, after the 9 teams have presented, winners will be chosen based on the tabulation of scores by a panel of judges from BPI, Eskwelabs, and partner organizations.

Communication FAQs

How do I know if I’ve been selected to participate in the summit?

Selected Summit participants will be notified via email with further instructions.

What happens after the summit?

We will follow up with participants 6 months post-event to track the impact and potential opportunities with BPI.

Can I attend the summit even if I don’t compete in the hackathon?

The summit will be exclusive via invite. Official invites will be sent out by Eskwelabs directly, so always check your emails.
